Business against Poverty releases survey results and secures landmark 100th member
The results of Business against Poverty (BaP) members carried out by marketing and research consultancy, Pink Flamingo (pinkflamingoshopper.com), highlight the importance of differentiation, reciprocal benefit and personal engagement to our success. These findings come just as we welcome our 100th member, John Williams Heating Services (jwheating.co.uk), a heating and plumbing specialist based in Chippenham!
The survey was commissioned in order to gain insight into why businesses and individuals engaged with BaP, to identify their expectations and how well they feel they are being met, and to identify areas of opportunity and improvement.
The survey showed that over half our members have been members for two years or longer, with 39% remaining loyal for over three years. Many stated that the reciprocal ethos was a major factor thereby demonstrating that BaP’s mantra of ‘a handshake, not a handout’ clearly reaps rewards. Two-thirds of members considered themselves ‘quite or very engaged’, adding comments such as “I’m really proud of the fact that we are BaP members”; 93% said that they had read BaP’s monthly newsletter with over half confirming that they visit the website every two to three weeks. The high visibility and personal enthusiasm of our leadership team has reaped dividends, with 39% of members stating that they joined as a result of having met CEO, Valerie Huxley, or Chair/BaP Director, Bill Huxley.
Areas cited as desirable for future development include an increase in profile and membership beyond the local area, events targeted at specific sectors, a second ‘flagship’ event such as a ball in another region and more communications about the charity’s projects and its people.
Reaching 100 members is a real milestone for BaP and the reach of our membership is increasing. John Williams Heating Services is a heating and plumbing specialist serving Chippenham and the surrounding area. In April 2014 the company won Enterprising Wiltshire Business of the Year.
Bill Huxley commented: “We are delighted with the feedback as this helps direct our activities for the future. It’s a huge sense of achievement to welcome John Williams Heating Services as our 100th member; we’re ready for 2015 and can’t wait to start working with the next 100 members!”
Debbie Williams, director at John Williams Heating Services stated: “As a successful, family-run company it is inspiring to be involved with a local charity that brings us together with other SMEs and individuals in the region. We’re looking forward to an exciting partnership with BaP in the year ahead.”
